About Us

Greater Portland Telugu Association (GPTA) is a non-profit organization formed to bring together and serve the Telugu community of Greater Portland, Oregon area. Our mission is to preserve, protect and propagate the Telugu culture, heritage and language in Greater Portland area with cultural and educational programs/events for kids and as well as parents. Part of our mission is to provide entertainment and fun in our programs.

GPTA was established in 1998 with the focus on serving the Telugu community in Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA (known as Greater Portland area). GPTA was started with a humble beginning in an apartment complex with just a simple aim of bringing a few Telugu families together during Vinayaka Chavithi festival. We received tremendous response and support at this event. With this encouragement, GPTA organized Ugadi festival in 1999. This was a huge success and there was no looking back for GPTA. We would like to thank each and every one for supporting the organization and helping it grow.

Typically we bring the Greater Portland Telugu community together by conducting cultural events for festivals celebrated in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh such as Ugadi and Dasara. Families of Greater Portland area participate in the cultural events and make it successful. Use the links to see glimpses and description of the past cultural events.

GPTA has conducted first round of Telugu Badi (Telugu School) program to teach the great Telugu language to the interested kids in the community. Our goal in starting this school is to provide opportunities for Greater Portland kids to learn and enhance their linguistic skills in Telugu. We constantly look for ways to improve our service and for input for new ways of bringing the community together. Please contact us with your input via email at [email protected].
